The most popular cat breeds in the United States include:
American Shorthair – Easygoing and family-friendly
Maine Coon – Large, fluffy, and affectionate
Persian – Calm, elegant, and laid-back
Siamese – Talkative and playful
Ragdoll – Gentle and cuddly, great with families
These breeds consistently rank among the top choices for American cat owners.
When I adopted my first cat, I noticed how common American Shorthairs were in shelters. They’re everywhere in the U.S. and for good reason—easygoing, healthy, and super adaptable. My own American Shorthair has been the perfect family cat, always curling up with the kids at bedtime.
I’ve lived in different states, and one breed I keep seeing over and over is the Maine Coon. They’re huge, fluffy, and friendly giants. My neighbor has one, and it’s practically the mascot of our street. Maine Coons are definitely one of the most popular breeds in the U.S., and honestly, it’s easy to see why.
