I once adopted a parrot that the rescue said was “aggressive.” And they weren’t lying—he bit me the first week and screamed for hours. But over time, with patience and routine, he learned to trust me. Now he rides on my shoulder and even greets me with a little “hello.” He’s proof that sometimes “problem pets” are just misunderstood.

My so-called “problem pet” was a feral kitten. Neighbors warned me she’d never adjust to humans. The first month, she hissed and hid under the bed, and I wondered if they were right. But slowly she warmed up—purring when I sat nearby, rubbing against my hand, and eventually sleeping on my pillow. She’s still shy with strangers, but with me, she’s the most loving little soul.
